Somewhere along this road, we learn about codependence. We hear it from a friend or a therapist. We see it mentioned in the news. Many of us wonder if codependence describes who we are.
The following characteristics of codependence are outlined in the CoDA pamphlet, “Am I Co-Dependent?” and can help us to identify to what degree this illness affects us.

SMART Recovery is an abstinence-oriented, not-for-profit organization for individuals with addictive problems. Our self-empowering, free mutual support meetings focus on ideas and techniques to help you change your life from one that is self-destructive and unhappy to one that is constructive and satisfying. SMART Recovery does not use labels like “addict” or “alcoholic.” We teach scientifically validated methods designed to empower you to change and develop a more positive lifestyle.
In SMART we focus on learning coping skills that work well short- and long-term. We base our ideas on what addiction science has shown to be effective. We have adapted these ideas into SMART’s tools for change. We are not much concerned with the past, except to learn from it. We focus on present-day events and the causes of self-destructive behaviors. We concentrate on what to do about them to achieve a positive lifestyle change, especially in the areas of our lives that are related to harmful addictive behavior.
Our company was established with the primary goal of helping people who are suffering from addiction, mental health issues, and addictive behaviors; through our education, counseling and intervention programs.
We understand first hand, the hurdles, struggles, and difficulties the individual in recovery and their family may face. Our programs serve as resources to help move beyond blame, shame and guilt and towards a path of positive change so the individual can realize their true potential.
We offer:
- Individual Counseling
- Group Therapy
- Family Therapy
- Telehealth
- Case Management
- Peer Support Groups
- Intervention Services
We offer a sliding scale and scholarships for individuals that qualify.

Our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) offers some of the same intensity and structure of Residential eating disorder treatment while providing additional opportunities to practice recovery outside of the controlled eating disorder treatment environment during evenings at home or in peer-supported apartment communities.
Unlike many Partial Hospitalization Programs that only offer 6 hours of eating disorder treatment, 5 days per week, our Partial Hospitalization Program offers patients a full day of treatment, 7 days per week.
By offering a full day of adult eating disorder treatment programming every day of the week, patients are supported through all meals and snacks with ample structure and containment to achieve symptom interruption and/or weight restoration.
Programming in our Partial Hospitalization program emphasizes the development of lifelong recovery skills in a safe, structured, and supportive environment. A well-rounded curriculum offers staff-supported opportunities to practice interactions and challenges outside of treatment through many avenues, including:
- Interactive group sessions
- Transitions groups
- Process groups
