The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is the nation's oldest program to help low-income, unemployed individuals aged 55+ find work.

AARP Foundation first matches eligible older job seekers with local nonprofits and public agencies so they can increase skills and build self-confidence while earning a modest income. Based on their employment interests and goals, participants may also receive supportive services and skills training through an educational institution. Their SCSEP experience most often leads to permanent employment.

To qualify for the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), applicants must meet the following official federal criteria:

• Age: Must be 55 years of age or older.
• Employment Status: Must be currently unemployed.
• Income: Must have a family income of no more than 125% of the federal poverty level.
• Residency: Must reside in a county or area served by the local program and be legally authorized to work in the United States.
