This FREE program offers a helpful setting where participants work together in a small group to learn about healthier eating and more physical activity to help lower their risk of developing diabetes. The program, which is led by a trained Lifestyle Coach in a classroom setting, is delivered over 12 months, beginning with 16 weekly sessions followed by 6 bi-weekly & 3 monthly sessions.

To qualify for the Prevent T2 program, participants must be at least 18 years old, overweight (BMI > 25), and at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes, or already have been diagnosed with prediabetes.*

About Antonia
The catalyst for Antonia Murguia to present "Empower Yourself with Clarity," was the death of her son, Andrew, by suicide. In hindsight, she now feels he did not have the skills necessary to overcome the chaos he felt. To the outside world, he appeared happy; on the inside he must have been struggling immensely.

Antonia's goal is to teach others how to deal with their lives when they become overwhelmed. She wants people to understand there is a way to cope. Suicide is a tragedy for the person who dies and for family and friends who are left with the never-ending pain of grief. Antonia does not want this pain for anyone.?

Antonia is a poet and an artist. She loves the music of poetry and the dance of words that melts into one’s heart, mind, and soul. She is the President of Alamo Area Poets of Texas. She participates in different types of poetry classes and writes different forms of poetry. She is about to publish a book about her grief journey following her son's death.?

Antonia has been published in the following publications: Galaxy of Verse; Voices de la Luna; The Call of the Chupacabra; Voices Across the River; Inkwell Echoes; Agave, a Celebration of Tequila; Living Peace; Art of Peace Poetry Anthology; and Fabricio Paterlini - International Piano Microstories Digital Publication (She was one of only seven poets from the US to be accepted.)

What is Movin' On Workshops?

Unconventional, interactive workshops that encourage youths ages 13 - 19 years of age to "think" and develop skills while having fun.  Youth are taught to use the skills that they do not even realize they have to solve real-world issues and deal with challenges that they will face after leaving foster care.

YTIA recognizes that youth learn in a variety of ways and that preparing to leave foster care begins when you enter foster care and that is why our Movin' On Workshops are:

• Tailored to meet youths where they are in life
• Divided into three categories based on the youth's age and/or ability
• Can be created specifically for the youth's needs
• Focus on specific categories of life skills
• Have an emphasis on preventing and /or mitigating legal effects

Workshops are divided into three categories:

• Get Ready - Designed for youth 13 - 15 years of age.  
• Transitioning Out - Designed for youth 16 - 18 years of age. 
• 18 and Free - Designed for youth 18 and older who want to know what it's really like once you "age out of the system"  or who have "aged out of the system" and need help making it on their own.

Program for Active Consumer Engagement in Self-Management.

PACES in epilepsy is a free program specifically designed to help adults with epilepsy manage their active seizure conditions. The goal is to help you develop strategies for epilepsy self-management for a more fulfilled and independent lifestyle.

PACES in Epilepsy discusses topics relevant to epilepsy in each session to improve self-management. The program consists of 8 weekly sessions each about 75 minutes. Each session is conducted via phone conference led by an epilepsy professional and a peer with epilepsy. At each session, participants are encouraged to engage by taking notes, asking questions, and sharing personal experiences. Each week, participants set a personal goal for the following week to improve how they deal with the challenges of living well with epilepsy.

PACES provides a wide range of topics that are important to people with epilepsy:

• Stress and depression
• Memory and cognition
• Community participation on a budget
• Managing care
• Assertive communication
• Improving well-being

To be eligible:

Project UPLIFT (Using Practice and Learning to Increase Favorable Thoughts) is a home-based depression treatment program designed for adults with epilepsy. 

UPLIFT is delivered over the phone by a trained mental health facilitator and by a person with epilepsy. The program combines proven techniques of CBT with mindfulness. The goal of mindfulness is to help people change their relationship to their thoughts by viewing thoughts as passing events that do not necessarily represent reality. Based upon this “mindfulness-based” cognitive therapy for depression, the pilot study found the program to significantly reduce symptoms of depression among people with epilepsy.

Project UPLIFT has been effective in:

• increasing knowledge and skills, 
• reducing symptoms of depression, and
• increasing satisfaction with life.

Other potential benefits include:

• telephone delivery, eliminating the need for transportation
• anonymity permitted by telephone delivery, which reduces stigma
• group delivery provides for support from other people with epilepsy
• cost effectiveness due to group delivery and no need for transportation
• increased skills to minimize relapse

Puro PREP is a free, positive youth development program designed to educate young people on how to have healthy relationships, make smart sexual decisions, and plan for their future.

The fun, engaging, and interactive classes are taught by trained facilitators utilizing an evidence-based curriculum, Love Notes.

The class sessions can be implemented in a variety of class formats and settings.

Puro PREP is open to youth in Bexar County, ages 12–19, and pregnant and parenting youth who are 20 years old and under.
