Awards payment-free vehicles to veterans wounded in direct combat with an enemy force and unmarried Gold Star spouses whose loved one was killed in action. In addition to the vehicle, the recipient will receive one year of family and financial mentoring.
This program is for veterans and unmarried Gold Star spouses whose loved one was killed in action.
Requirements:
- It would be best if you lived within the particular travel radius of the vehicle to qualify for it.[Check Google Maps for details]
- Must be a veteran wounded during combat (Purple Heart recipients given priority) or injured during combat training from any American military conflict
or - Must be an unmarried Gold Star Spouse of a service member who was killed in action or killed during combat training
- Must be honorably retired, separated from the military, or within 90 days of discharge.
- Must be able to obtain vehicle insurance.
- Must not have more than one vehicle loan/lease per household.

With our proximity to the Greyhound station, we help those in need of bus travel for safety, opportunities, and family needs.
In order to serve most fully, we are able to provide one bus ticket per person each calendar year.
Bexar County has refreshed its BiblioTech “Ride & Read” program, allowing VIA riders to access thousands of free eBook and audiobook titles through the BiblioTech app.
VIA Metropolitan Transit and BiblioTech Public Library partnered in 2016 to bring Bexar County’s all-digital public library to commuters. The program continues VIA’s support of BiblioTech’s mission to enhance education and literacy, promote reading as recreation, and equip residents with the necessary tools to thrive in our modern landscape.
BiblioTech Digital Library is the first all-digital public library in the United States. It can be accessed 24/7 on mobile devices using VIA’s free 4G LTE WiFi, available on all buses and at all transit centers.

Vanpool makes it possible for groups of five to 15 persons to share a ride to work while splitting the cost of van rental and fuel.

How does vanpooling work?
VIAWorks Vanpool vehicles may travel almost anywhere, as long as trips start or end within VIA’s bus service area.
Employees of participating workplaces may receive IRS tax benefits for Vanpool expense reimbursements. VIA also provides a subsidy discount ($20 per person, per month), insurance, 24-hour roadside assistance, and van maintenance.

To promote independence, preserve dignity, and enhance the quality of life of older adults and people with disabilities by coordinating and providing educational and transportation services.
We strive to ensure our older adults, people with disabilities, and those who care for them have transportation resources and services needed to maintain independence and promote healthy aging in a safe, caring, and compassionate manner with respect for each individual entrusted in our care.
- Seniors: 60 years of age or older
- People with disabilities: 50 years of age or older (We prefer that a caregiver accompany our volunteer drivers.)
Service area: We serve Downtown, Southwest, South, Southeast, Northwest, and North Central San Antonio within Loop 1604, including the former Jefferson Outreach service area. (Updated service area map coming soon.)

Getting to work every day, school, and appointments would be next to impossible in a city like San Antonio without having the public transit system.
Having access to reliable transportation allows youth to obtain and maintain employment, continue their education, keep appointments and lead more independent lives. Through a partnership with VIA, we are able to provide renewable 6-month bus passes to youth in our programs to ride the VIA buses for free and help remove the transportation barrier.
Eligibility requirements:
- Current or former foster youth
- Between the ages of 14-25
- Must have a photo ID
- Must be actively participating in the THRU Project mentoring program

Nonemergency medical transportation services are available for Medicaid beneficiary or their child. These services include rides to a doctor's office, dentist's office, hospital, drug store, or any place that provides covered health care services.
Types of rides include:
- Public transportation, like the city bus.
- A taxi or van service.
- Commercial transit, like a bus or plane, to go to another city for an appointment.
Services may also include:
- Money for gas.
- Meals and lodging for children and youth 20 and younger staying overnight to get covered health care services.
- Payment for out-of-state travel to neighboring states (Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico).
- Services do not include making arrangements for emergency or nonemergency transportation by ambulance.
