Alamo Service Connection is an information, referral, and assistance system for seniors, people with disabilities, and their families.
ASC helps them navigate the complex system of services offered by government agencies, nonprofits, and other service providers.
ASC has an extensive database on its website, which is supported by systems navigators in the ASC call center.
Systems navigators help callers explore options for handling problems related to aging and disability and recommend resources and strategies for problem resolution.
This resource is available to senior citzens, people with disabilities, and their families and caregivers in the following counties: Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Frio, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, McMullen, Medina, Wilson.

The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) aims to improve the health and nutritional well-being of elderly individuals, 60 years and older, who are vulnerable to malnutrition and are income eligible.
The USDA provides approved USDA Food for grocery packages that are used for home consumption. The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) administers the CSFP through contracts with individual food banks and provides oversight of their operations.
Local organizations distribute the food packages and provide nutrition education to more than 34,000 eligible participants through an agreement with their respected food banks.

The Project HOPE program is a city funded program through the City of San Antonio. This program provides seniors living on a fixed income with supplemental staple groceries on a monthly bases to help fight hunger and malnutrition.
The program offers between 35-45 lbs of perishable/non-perishable food. Exact contents vary, though items selected would include fresh, frozen, and shelf-stable produce, proteins, dairy, grains, peanut butter or beans.

Criteria for Project HOPE:
Age qualification:
The seniors must be 60 years of age and older and be within 185% of the federal poverty guidelines to participate in the program. All participants must reside within Bexar County. Each qualifying senior in a household can sign up separately to receive the program.

- Proof of address (Utility bill)
- Proof of income (SSI award letter or current paystubs)

GRASP offers daily activities and programs for elderly persons to promote socialization, independence and better nutrition to live a longer, healthier and happier lifestyle. Individuals qualify for the program who are ambulatory and over age 60. Spouses and caregivers are also eligible to participate.
CONGREGATE MEALS
Hot noon meals are served daily except weekends at the GRASP Community Center in Converse. Professionally prepared meals meet one-third of the daily requirements for nutrition. All participants must register.
TRANSPORTATION
GRASP offers accessible daily bus transportation services for local seniors and disabled persons or living with disabilities.
ACTIVITIES
Individuals can participate in daily activities that include low-impact exercises, guest speakers, arts, crafts, games, classes, day trips, evening dinners, dances and other activities planned by the enrolled participants.

The 50 + group of St. Helena was established to launch six goals that address the dignity and concerns of the entire person, mind, and spirit:
Awareness: Establishing and fostering the role of older adults in the parish and community, providing training in leadership, promoting public relations, holding membership drives, and helping members recognize their talents and service potential for the parish and community.
- Continuing education: religious topics, health topics, crime prevention.
- Social/recreational activities: exhibits, talent shows, parties, bake sale dinners, older Americans month and covered dish lunches, games, bingo, cards, sports, picnics, crafts, and tours.
- Advocacy: keeping informed about political candidates on issues, voting at election time, writing letters to state and national legislators, etc.
- Encourage self-help and independence.
- Provide for the development of leadership and coordination among the seniors.
The 50+ group is an organization for, with, and by seniors; the group offers support services throughout the parish, the Archdiocese of San Antonio, and other agencies as may be available, possible, and appropriate.
We would like to have all seniors participate in the seniors program and need volunteers to fill all positions.
Blessed Angels Community Center is an emergency food pantry. Our passion is helping those in need. We offer emergency food assistance weekly by appointment, and each family receives a variety of nutritional perishable and nonperishable food items.
