The concept behind Friends of Spare Parts dba Spare Parts was developed in 2011 by our founder Mary Elizabeth Cantú, as a response to the lack of art funds and resources in PreK-12 classrooms.

The Spare Parts Center for Creative Reuse is San Antonio’s first art supply thrift store. The purpose of the Center for Creative Reuse is to facilitate the intake of pre-owned creative materials and supplies that would otherwise be thrown away or underutilized and offers them back into the community through program offerings and storefront. The Center is a community-driven operation and depends on material donors, volunteers, and patrons to continue to sustain a safe and welcoming place where teachers, parents, crafters, kids, and artists, can access affordable pre-loved supplies and materials.

Spare Parts Connect is an innovative educational program that connects businesses and organizations with the community to foster creativity, sustainability, and collaboration. Spare Parts Connect promotes the concept of creative reuse by offering a unique opportunity for businesses and organizations to engage with their audience through hands-on activities and demonstrations. 

Please note that we are a nonprofit organization and our services for Spare Parts Connect are available for a fee, which varies depending on the specific event and activity you have in mind. We’ll work closely with you to tailor a pricing package that aligns with your budget and objectives. Don’t hesitate to contact us for further details regarding our pricing structure.

Monthly neighborhood meetings are sponsored to build unity in the community and give us opportunities to develop relationships with our children's parents and other caregivers. Each event includes a free meal, live Christian music, and clothing. Other items such as school supplies, Thanksgiving dinners, and Christmas gifts are also provided seasonally.

The Training for Job Success program is designed to support income-eligible residents as they prepare for better employment that can lead their families to self-sufficiency.

Pastor Henry Mooney is the Spiritual Leader of Believers In Christ Ministries & Believers And Community Development. He came to Christ after a long life of crime and unbelief.

Prayer is powerful and changes things! Every Friday night we meet at our community center to pray for our community and our city. Come join us in faith as we pray for God to move in our community and to change lives.

We love putting on special events, especially during the holidays. We have programs for Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas such as turkey and ham distribution. Other special events for the community include sourcing backpacks and school supplies for kids and we also have community celebration dinners.

Money Smart Classes: Case management staff, in partnership with financial organizations trained in FDIC curriculum, offer quarterly Money Smart classes at our public housing communities. Topics include: borrowing basics, pay yourself first, banking services, budgeting, repairing your credit, and homeownership.

Back To School Drives: FSS case managers organize back-to-school drives to help residents with costs of school supplies. The funds raised pay for school supplies, uniforms, immunizations and haircuts.

Health Fairs: Case managers participate in and support community health fairs.

Employment Fairs: Family Self-sufficiency provides residents information on upcoming job fairs and assists with transportation, resume preparation, interview technique and necessary job skills.

Summer Youth Employment: HABC provides youth, ages 14 to 24, the opportunity to learn on-the-job training during the summer months. Employment may be with HABC or with one of our partners.

Thanksgiving Baskets: During the holiday season, case and property management staff identify needy families and supply holiday meals to them.

OTS manages the college's technology infrastructure and offers a wide range of services to assist members of faculty, staff and students with their technical needs.

Our Mission is to provide the San Antonio College community with reliable and secure information technology infrastructure and services.

San Antonio College has a limited inventory of laptops and internet hotspots available for your use. The laptops have Wi-Fi capability for use where wireless internet access exists, a web camera, and are loaded with a web browser.

The SAC Tech store is a one-stop shop for all technology needs. Students, faculty and staff of the Alamo Colleges can purchase computer equipment at an educational discount.

As well, the store sells computer and tech accessories, offers a variety services, and provides on-going workshops to showcase new technology.

Currently, the SAC Tech Store offers a variety of products from Apple and DELL, including laptops and tablets.

Faculty, staff and students with a valid Alamo Colleges ID are eligible to purchase computer equipment and/or services offered at the SAC Tech Store.

Community members can participate in on-going workshops, get tech-related service, and purchase computer accessories and general merchandise.

Operation Back to School aims to fulfill the educational needs of these children as part of the Gabriella’s Gifts program. 

Since 2016, we have served over 1,300 children with backpacks and delivered them to oncology clinics in local children's hospitals. The backpacks are gifted to these brave cancer warriors and their siblings annually before the start of each school year. Our 2023 goal is to provide 300 new backpacks filled with school supplies to children battling cancer and their siblings. 

With our new Children’s Cancer Support Center now open, we have designated that as our official drop-off location. During July, donate new backpacks and school supplies. The items most needed are backpacks, notebooks, pencils, erasers, and other related school supplies at 477 Spencer Lane, San Antonio, Texas 78201. In addition to the backpacks, we would like to provide each family with gas and grocery cards. Additional funds donated will go directly to support our ongoing Children's Cancer Support Center.

Backpacks will be distributed to our cancer families at our Summer Bash event on Saturday, August 05, at 10 AM and taken to the local oncology clinics. You can also choose to sponsor or make a monetary donation. Learn more here.

We provide:

• Financial assistance for prescription medications up to $80 annually.
• School supplies and backpacks are available by signing up from mid-June to early July.

Thanks to generous support from foundation partners and individual donors, we can provide tuition assistance for our students based on available funds.

We download, print and deliver homework assignments for students in our service area that do not have access to a computer or wifi at home.

We also provide crayons, pens, pencils, and other materials the students need to complete their work.

We also check students' homework, track their progress, and offer incentives for the students who finish their packets.

Bethany Closet is the community outreach arm of Bethany Missionary Baptist Church. Through our partnerships with our Evangelism Ministry, private donors and community organizations, we assist members of our local neighborhood, city and state.

This ministry provides uniforms and school supplies for Elementary Schools in the Edgewood School District. We also provide assistance with Food, Clothing and Household Items for families in need.

We are a Faith Base partner with the Child Protective Services and regularly provide necessities for children and families in transition.
