Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI) is the leading cause of visual impairment in children in developed countries. Yet, it is misunderstood and difficult to diagnose.

TEAMability offers the region’s only program for assessment and intervention for children 0-22 who have, or are suspected of having, CVI. Parent education and support is an important part of this program.

At the front of the eye is a clear dome, the outermost layer of the eye, known as the cornea. The cornea plays a significant role in your vision. Together, the lens and the cornea are responsible for focusing light onto the retina (at the back of the eye). In fact, the cornea can be responsible for as much as three quarters of the eye’s ability to focus. Our corneas also help protect the eye, by filtering harmful ultraviolet light and serving as a barrier to dirt, particulates, germs, etc.

Our tears are an important part of our overall eye health, providing lubrication and protection. Yet, problems can and do develop with our eyes’ tear film. In some cases, tear production can be insufficient. In other cases, the chemical makeup of the tear film can be improper. In any case where the tear film is inadequate to perform its function, known as dry eye syndrome, uncomfortable symptoms ensue, including:

• Dryness
• Discomfort in dry or windy conditions
• Light sensitivity
• Blurry vision
• Difficulty performing visual tasks, such as reading, watching TV and driving
• Inability to wear contact lenses
• Symptoms that worsen late in the day

The EVO ICL is an additive lens to treat nearsightedness and astigmatism in qualified patients. The ICL (implantable collamer lens) is an additive lens placed behind the iris and in front of the natural lens.

Unlike other vision correction procedures, the EVO ICL does not involve removing any tissue from the eye or reshaping the eye to correct vision. These reasons make the EVO ICL an excellent choice if you want to improve your vision but don't necessarily want to do so permanently.

At the back of the human eye is light-sensitive tissue, called the retina, onto which light is focused as it passes through the cornea and lens. If the eye were a camera, the retina would function as the film. As light strikes the retina, chemical and electrical events trigger nerve impulses that are delivered to the brain via the optic nerve. To be eligible for dental care, a veteran must be 100% service-connected (SC), have an SC disability rating condition, be a former Prisoner of War for 90 days or more, or have a medical condition that is adjunct or aggravated by an SC disability. Also, dental care may be provided to complete an episode of treatment which was initiated while the veteran was an inpatient.

This program is designed to provide for basic needs for our “neighbors". Time Dollar uses a two-step approach in our work.

The first step is called “giving fish” through our “Los Vecinos” (neighbors) program where we provide food, eye glasses through Prevent Blindness Texas and service referrals.

The second step is "Basic Case Management" where we offer help filling out forms, reading letters, providing service referrals and any other type of assistance required based on the need.
